Slowing Down

By Naledi Setzin

Slowing Down

My body went cold,

Its temperature had decreased.

I lay straight on my back,

As flat as a sheet.

Was this reality now,

Had they given up on me?

My mother’s cries were painful to my soul,

And father’s tears hurt my inner core.

The doctors stood silently watching me,

As my life was simply leaving so easily.

There were no beeping sounds,

Or tubes wrapped around.

The lights from the screen dimmed down,

As I sobbed in sadness.

Unable to express a frown,

The room felt lonely.

Although there was company,

The sorrow filled the air,

More than I could bare.

I took my last sigh,

As I knew it was time,

To say goodbye.

They switch off the machines,

while my coma rested me in deep dreams.
